Otogi Frontier R is another great game from Nutaku, brought from Japan and translated into English. This online JRPG-like fantasy battler features the usual stuff: kingdom in danger, princesses in distress, evil forces converging on poor peasants and so on. But it also has some nice twists that makes gameplay really enjoyable and well developed character progression system. And the letter R suggests it is adult rated. Enter the world of Otogi Frontier R and see if it’s easy to seduce some sexy spellcasters!

What’s Otogi Frontier R about?

Otogiland is a magical life that’s parallel to our world. It’s inhabitants draw strenght from human’s fairy tales. You’re a certain anon that gets transformed to this world (how original), and to your surprise, you’re discovering that you wield powerful sorcery of Elmight, that gains you ability to open portals between worlds. But because you’re outsider, you can only use power of the fighting ladies if you cross with them  in order to awaken their power.

I’m sure you can guess what it means “to cross” in order to obtain power. ^_^

Battles

It’s an persistent online game and to advance the story, level up your team and get more girls to join you, you’ll be completing quests of various kinds: main quests, daily quests, key quests and limited event quests. Just pick up quest you wish to complete, check the requirements and go into battle.

Mission start with Visual Novel scene.

Battle screen – enemy assortment are typical JRPG nonsense like slimes and some weird pokemons, though you’ll also fight demons and evil knight later

You can also change battle speed in the interface, and both Spirit and  skills can be used automatically.

Battle flow is explained very well in the tutorial, which I recommend to take before starting the game. You’ll be also rewarded with a h-scene, upon completing tutorial, so the more reasons to learn how to play.

Battles reward you with EXP, items and gold.

Character development

While this is a gatcha game, character development and options are most complex that I have ever seen in such games and you’ll be spending much time assigning skills, spirits, equipment, evolving, enhancing, inheriting and more.

Each of girl and enemy has affiliation to one of the 5 Elements, so you should complete the team according to enemy weaknesses in given mission, ie. Water beats Fire and so on.

During battles, you will be able to use Skills and Spirit. Skills can be used when your CT meter is fully accumulated, similar to older Final Fantasy games. Hitting skill button conjures some area of effect damage, stun, heal – whatever your party members are using. Each girl has several skills at her disposal, so deciding which abilities to power up is crucial for winning tougher battles.

Even more powerful skills are available as a Chain Skills, released when Chain Gauge is filled up.

Skills can be enhanced and inherited.

Finally, most potent power comes from Spirits that work depending on which spirit you choose to assist in battles. Spirits can clean up stage quickly, though you won’t be able to use them often.

Additionaly, Items acquired while questing can be used to heal or buff your team, so remember that you can use your stack of potion to overcome some of the tough bosses.

There is even crafting workshop, where you’re unlocking recipes and craft new items. Tons of stuff to do in Otogi Frontier R!

Oh, and I almost forgot – you can equip one piece of Equipment and Accessory for each party member. These give you additional boost and can be obtained as rewards.

Girls can be also evolved and evolution not only adds new powers, but also strips them from some unnecessary clothing 🙂 Evolution requires materials that can be obtained from quests. Most importantly, it also unlocks bonus scenes for some girls!

Hentai Scenes

Hentai scenes are almost perfect: animated, voiced in japanese for full repertoire of sexy whispers and noisy moans and they’re not overtly long. There are happy sex mostly, though be aware there is some forced sex too – though the protagonist isn’t Rance.

Moreover there are several sex scenes for each character (typically 2 to 3), and to unlock happy fucking, you’ll need to level them up. Also, evolving girls results in shedding some unnecessary clothes in their general pictures.

Some girls are modest, though they’ll eventually let you have your way in animated hentai scenes!

Why should you want to play Otogi Frontier R?

• Voiced in Japanese – including most dialogues and sex scenes,
• Story is nice, though there are lots of of anime tropes (that isn’t really important though, because we all know you’re here not exactly for the story ^_^),
• Sex scenes are plentiful and animated,
• Battles are fun and moderately complex through availability of Skills, Chain Skills, Spirit Powers and Elements – and you can always do auto-battles.
• Very complex character development with lots of options for the player,
• Established online game in Japan, so there should be plenty of updates and events
